Apple Lakeside gets a major redesign after nearly 20 years

Apple Lakeside will reopen on September 12 following a redesign that adds dedicated pickup, expanded accessibility features, and a brand new experience room.

Located in Essex, England, Apple Lakeside was initially opened in October 2007. The renovation has brought several upgrades to the space.

A new dedicated "Apple Pickup" area allows customers to order online and pick up when it is most convenient for them. It also boasts a sustainable choice of materials.

Accessibility was a key part of the redesign. Apple has included variable-height seating and tables, assisted listening systems, and enhanced visual and acoustic clarity; wheelchair users can take advantage of easier-to-navigate routes, too.

"We're excited to open the completely redesigned and upgraded Apple Lakeside, offering customers from across Essex and South East England new ways to discover and shop the latest Apple lineups," an Apple spokesperson said.

"The all-new Apple Lakeside features an experience room for customers to explore products, a designated Genius Bar to get personalised support, a dedicated Apple Pick Up area to conveniently collect online orders, and free, educational Today at Apple sessions that inspire customers to go further with their passions."

Like other Apple retail spaces, it runs on 100% renewable energy.

Apple lists Apple Lakeside as open through September 10, before a one-day closure on September 11. The redesigned store will open at 9:00 a.m. local time on September 12.

The upgrade comes as part of Apple's larger effort to modernize its stores worldwide. In 2023, it was reported that Apple would open or renovate 50 stores worldwide by 2027.

Apple opened its first UK store on Regent Street in 2004. The company currently has 39 stores in the UK.

Apple is set to permanently close the Apple Festival Place, located in Basingstoke, England, in November 2026.
