Make sure you have the latest version of Finder (macOS Catalina and later) or iTunes. Connect your device over USB and back it up. Then hold Option (Mac) or Shift (Windows) and click Restore or Update, select the downloaded IPSW file and wait for the installation to finish.

No. IPSW files can only be applied from a computer, so you need to download the file on a Mac or PC and install it through Finder or iTunes.

The model number identifies your exact Apple device. It starts with the letter A followed by four digits (for example A1905). You can find it on the back of the device, or under Settings → General → About. Use our device identifier to look it up.

Apple only allows installation of firmware versions it is currently signing. Once a version is unsigned you can still download the IPSW file, but Finder or iTunes will refuse to install it. The signing column on each device page is updated regularly.

Error 3194 usually means the version you are installing is no longer signed, or your hosts file points gs.apple.com to another server. Check the signing status on the firmware page and remove any Cydia/TinyUmbrella entries from your hosts file.

Only while Apple is still signing that version — typically for a week or two after a new release. Unsigned versions cannot be installed on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch or Apple TV.

Yes. Every download link points directly to Apple's own content delivery network (*.apple.com). We never host, repackage or modify firmware files, and every page shows the official MD5 and SHA1 checksums so you can verify the download.
