The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max may ship in only three colors once again, as a questionable leaker believes one of four colors may not make it to launch.
Apple's announcement of the "Surprise and Shine" event on September 9 means the launch of new models is not far away. Even as time counts down to that event, the rumor mill is still coming up with ways to spoil the launch ahead of time.
In the newest claim from Weibo on Tuesday, serial leaker Fixed Focus Digital has declared that the selection of colors Apple will use for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max may be slimmer than previously rumored. Rather than four, the account says there may only be three.
The post says that the iPhone 18 Pro has entered full mass production, which is quite frankly a given at this point of the schedule. However, they point out that there hasn't been any solid leaks about color options.
They then say three colors that are on the way. They consist of Sky Blue, Pure Black, and Burgundy or a Wine Red. It goes on to say that one of the options in an attached image probably won't be available this time around.
A check of the image shows four iPhone 18 Pro units in a row, similar to an iPhone promo shot. Between the blue and black models is a light grey version, which is the one the account refers to.
Three is the magic number
To a point, the Weibo leaker is correct in that there are no firm leaks using Apple components for the color range so far. There have been accessory leaks over time, and the rumor mill has seemingly settled on the colors being some variant of Black, Silver, Burgundy, and Blue.
Indeed, the Burgundy became a bit of a hot topic in rumors, with it often referred to as Dark Cherry. This is presumably considered the follow-up to the popular Cosmic Orange.
While the rumors haven't said the selection of four will become three, there is Apple's previous product lines to consider.
From the iPhone 14 Pro range until the iPhone 16 Pro, Apple sold the premium models in a choice of four colorways. Generally, they could be considered as a black-like version, a white variant, and two others that included neutral metal tones and Deep Purple as an unusual choice.
The iPhone 17 Pro limited the color range to just three, with a very light Silver accompanied by a very dark Deep Blue, and the bright Cosmic Orange.
If we believe the new leak to be true, then Apple would be getting rid of the white-ish option in its Pro model range. Since every Pro-grade iPhone has always included a white-adjacent option, it seems odd for Apple to want to pull that off the roster.
Weibo leakers don't have the best reputation for accuracy, and frequently offer supposed leaks regurgitated from elsewhere on the Internet. Fixed Focus Digital is well known, but also has a mixed track record when it comes to Apple rumors.
Ultimately, we will know whether it is right or not in a matter of days.
