In the same report that brought rumors of a 2029 MacBook of some sort, and M5 Ultra in the OLED MacBook Pro, it is said that Apple has scrapped plans for an all-screen folding MacBook Pro.
An all-screen folding MacBook Pro is a rumor that really got started in 2022. Then, it was said that a 2026 launch was possible.
And now, it turns out that it may not see the light of day.
In a wide-ranging report from Omdia published on September 3, the display panel analysts claim that Apple has ditched plans for the product. And, possibly on the chopping block is also another variant of the OLED MacBook Pro that is said to be launching soon.
It's possible that Apple has just shifted plans, or that the folding all-screen MacBook Pro never existed at all. The product pipeline by the market watcher also says that there is a 13.8-inch OLED MacBook bridge product, in between the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, expected in 2029.
Omdia does not have a great track record in Apple predictions. It appears to have relatively accurate tracking of the display panel market, though.
OLED display destinations can be hard to pin down. The screens are cut from a large screen, to suit. They are then attached to a backing, and circuitry to form the screen itself.
So, a panel thought to be destined for one product, may in fact be for another after cutting.
Who has a worse Apple rumor record, though is The Elec. That publication has been the one beating the drum about this product since the beginning, with few other rumors popping up about it.
