Apple has reportedly increased the number of vapor chamber coolers it has ordered from its suppliers, with the company likely to use them in its first foldable iPhone as well as the 20th-anniversary celebration model.
The report doesn't go into detail, but it's claimed that Apple has "significantly increased" the total vapor chamber cooling plates on order. It's thought that the first phone to benefit from the new plates will be the oft-rumored foldable device, commonly called iPhone Ultra or iPhone Fold.
This report comes from the Weibo account "Fixed Focus Digital," the same leaker who claimed the iPhone Ultra would benefit from a new cooling system. However, the anonymous leaker is so far the only one to have made such a claim.
Cool iPhones in more ways than one
Apple already uses a vapor chamber cooling system in the 2025 iPhone 17 Pro, so it's no surprise it would turn to the same technology for its 2026 models. The system uses water in a sealed heat exchanger to help the iPhone's A19 Pro chip stay cool by moving heat away from the chip and dissipating it throughout the iPhone's chassis.
Such a design would make sense given the expected thin design of the iPhone Ultra. The same can also be said for the rumored 20th-anniversary iPhone, set to launch in 2027.
Rumors suggest this model, possibly called iPhone 20, will feature a new industrial design and bezel-free build. Again, it's easy to see where a vapor chamber cooling system would be beneficial for that device.
However, it's important to remember that Fixed Focus Digital has a mixed record in terms of Apple rumors. They correctly predicted the name of the iPhone 16e, but also incorrectly claimed the iPhone 17 would gain a new 120Hz display.
