OWC is expanding its Thunderbolt 5 lineup with a $350 dock offering dual HDMI and 140W charging.
On Tuesday, OWC announced an upcoming Thunderbolt 5 Dock with Dual HDMI, compatible with both Mac and PC. The dock is aimed at creative and business professionals looking to maximize performance and streamline workflows.
The new dock includes two HDMI 2.1 ports for connecting displays without separate adapters. It supports two displays at up to 4K 240Hz or 8K 60Hz using DSC.
Users can connect a third display through the dock's downstream Thunderbolt or USB-C connection. Display capabilities depend on the connected computer and its supported display configurations.
The dock supplies up to 140W of power to a connected laptop through Thunderbolt 5. A front USB-C port provides up to 30W for charging phones, tablets, and other devices.
For networking, the dock includes a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port for wired connections. It also includes UHS-II SD and microSD card slots for transferring media.
A downstream Thunderbolt 5 port supports external SSDs, RAID systems, and other Thunderbolt peripherals. OWC says the dock supports Thunderbolt 5, Thunderbolt 4, USB4, USB-C, and Thunderbolt 3 Macs.
The dock can be positioned horizontally or vertically depending on the user's desk setup. OWC's Dock Ejector software can also unmount connected storage devices simultaneously.
On macOS, an included driver provides support for Apple's discontinued USB SuperDrive through the dock. The SD card reader also works with OWC's Innergize software for managing compatible Atlas cards.
The OWC Thunderbolt 5 dock will be available in early November and priced at $349.99.
OWC's new Thunderbolt 5 Cable
OWC also announced a 1.5-meter version of its existing Thunderbolt 5 USB-C cable. The cable supports bidirectional data transfers at up to 80Gbps over compatible Thunderbolt 5 connections.
Thunderbolt 5 can allocate up to 120Gbps of bandwidth when additional display bandwidth is required. The cable can also deliver up to 240W of power to compatible devices.
The cable supports Thunderbolt 5, Thunderbolt 4, Thunderbolt 3, USB4, and USB-C devices. OWC says it can connect docks, displays, external storage, PCIe hardware, and other compatible peripherals.
OWC backs the Thunderbolt 5 USB-C cable with a three-year limited warranty. Pricing and availability for the new dock and 1.5-meter cable were not included in the announcement.
The OWC Thunderbolt 5 cable will be available in mid-October for $58.99.
