Apple's first full "Ted Lasso" season 4 trailer brings Jason Sudeikis back to Richmond with a new team and a clear reason to reopen the show's story.
The trailer reveals little about how Ted leaves Kansas or what brings him back to AFC Richmond. Instead, Apple focuses on the returning cast, familiar locations, and the optimistic tone that helped turn Ted Lasso into one of Apple TV's defining shows.
Sudeikis returns alongside Hannah Waddingham as Rebecca Welton, Juno Temple as Keeley Jones, Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent, Brendan Hunt as Coach Beard, and Jeremy Swift as Leslie Higgins.
New cast members include Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern, and Grant Feely. Feely takes over the role of Ted's son, Henry.
Season 4 will begin with one episode on August 5, followed by a new episode every Wednesday through October 7.
Apple formally set the date on April 28 with a minute-long teaser. The company said Ted would return to Richmond and coach a second-division women's football team as he and the players learn to take chances they previously wouldn't have considered.
The premise follows a thread established in the season 3 finale on May 31, 2023. Ted returned home to Kansas, while Keeley proposed creating an AFC Richmond women's team.
Creating an AFC Richmond women's team gives season 4 a way to preserve the club and its established characters without simply repeating the men's team's rise through English football. Coaching the new players also puts Ted back in an unfamiliar sporting environment and gives the series room to build relationships beyond the original squad.
AFC Richmond starts a new chapter
Season 3 was written as the conclusion of the story its creators originally planned. Sudeikis said before its premiere that the season marked the end of that particular chapter, although the cast left open the possibility of returning to AFC Richmond in another form.
Rumors of a revival continued until Sudeikis and Apple confirmed season 4 on March 14, 2025. Production later began in Kansas City in July 2025 before moving to London.
The women's-team premise had also surfaced in earlier reporting, making the direction less of a reinvention than a continuation of an idea planted before Ted left Richmond.
Ted Lasso became Apple TV's first major breakout series after the streaming service launched in November 2019. Its first season received a record 20 Emmy nominations for a debut comedy, and the show won outstanding comedy series for its first two seasons.
The awards and audience response made Ted Lasso an important title for Apple TV, but the fourth season still has to establish an identity beyond the original three-season arc. Building the revival around a new team is a sensible starting point because it changes Ted's challenge without abandoning the characters and setting viewers already know.
