After a strong first season, and an Apple TV pickup, BBC comedy "Small Prophets" is returning for a second season and making the jump from BBC Two to BBC One.
The move to BBC One puts "Small Prophets" in front of a larger audience after its first season became the BBC's biggest new comedy of the year. The series debuted on BBC Two in February and has been compared to "Ted Lasso."
Season one follows Michael Sleep, whose partner Clea disappeared nearly a decade ago. An average man, Sleep's days are spent working in a DIY store, visiting his father, and hoping for Clea's return.
One day, his father shares a recipe for creating Homunculi. Enlisting his colleague Kacey, Sleep attempts to conjure up a spirit that can help predict his future.
"Small Prophets" stars Mackenzie Crook, Sir Michael Palin, Pearce Quigley, and Lauren Patel. It was written and directed by Crook, best known for starring in the original version of "The Office."
While the program is a BBC production, it has also appeared on Apple TV. In an unusual move for Apple TV, it obtained streaming rights to the first season in August.
Currently, there's no word on whether the series will make a return to Apple TV. However, the series' popularity and the timing of this announcement is significant, suggesting that it likely will make a return to Apple's streaming service.
Apple TV famously has not bought a whole existing library of programs, but it has often acquired individual titles such as its Oscar-winning "CODA." They have always been shown first on Apple, though, even if they were intended to be shown elsewhere later.
