While Apple didn't talk about it during the event, press materials for the iPhone 18 Pro have revealed the release date of iOS 27.
Apple has confirmed that iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 will arrive on September 14. The updates bring a sizable collection of new features and improvements to iPhone and iPad.
Here are the updates you can expect to arrive on your devices this September.
What to expect in iOS 27
iOS 27 introduces Apple's redesigned Siri, with new models and a System Orchestrator connecting Apple Intelligence features. Siri AI adds text input, conversation history, follow-up questions, and greater access to personal context.
Visual Intelligence is now available through a dedicated Siri mode in Camera. Users can also include screenshots and captured images as context for Siri queries.
Photos adds Extend to generate content beyond an image's original boundaries and Spatial Reframe for changing perspectives. Image Playground also gains additional generation styles, including support for photorealistic images.
Parental controls simplify child account setup and expand permission requests to websites. Screen Time receives updated app controls, while Communication Safety can now detect and obscure graphic imagery.
Liquid Glass receives readability improvements, sharper icons, and additional customization controls. GymKit also lets iPhones connect directly to compatible cardio equipment.
Health seemingly didn't get much of an update this time around. Notably, Cycle Tracking adds notifications for perimenopause patterns.
Apple Maps receives updated Flyover imagery. Maps can also automatically generate Local Lists for restaurants and other locations.
The Home app can summarize notifications and describe or search HomeKit Secure Video footage. Supported HomeKit cameras can also stream and record video in 4K.
What to expect in iPadOS 27
Many changes in iPadOS 27 center on Apple Intelligence, Siri AI, and system performance. The update also includes optimizations and bug fixes.
Users running current iPadOS 26 versions should already have completed the required Spotlight reindexing. Siri AI and new Apple Intelligence features will become available across supported devices after installing iPadOS 27.
Siri AI is integrated with Spotlight, allowing searches to return results generated using Apple's AI system. The new Siri app also maintains a history of previous Siri interactions.
Siri AI can reference information from Messages, Mail, Journal, and other supported apps when responding to requests. With iPadOS 27, third-party apps can also provide information for Siri AI to reference.
iPadOS 27 also includes paste suggestions, faster windowing actions, and a new systemwide menu bar. Apple says file transfers in the Files app are up to five times faster.
The update brings changes beyond its headline Siri AI and Spotlight features. Those system improvements will be available across supported iPad models, including standard iPads and iPad Pro.
