Variable aperture will allow iPhone users to take better photos than ever, but the system it was built on is hair-thin with moving parts.
Apple says the iPhone 18 Pro has a 48MP Fusion Main Camera with variable aperture. It's optimized for portrait capture at f/1.8 and can open wider for more dynamic shots.
The system was built using six laser-cut blades that are each thinner than a human hair. The rotor mechanism helps move the blades automatically, while the lens is custom-made for the feature.
Photographic Styles has also been upgraded with options to control grain and texture. There are also more options for white balance.
