See John Ternus live at Steve Jobs Theater in his first event as CEO

Apple's John Ternus has opened his first product event as CEO, putting new leadership at the center of the company's biggest annual launch.

The appearance wasn't Ternus's first encounter with the media as CEO, but it was his first time presiding over an Apple Event since succeeding Tim Cook on September 1.

Ternus was already a familiar face in Apple presentations after years of introducing hardware. The September event marked his debut as the company's primary host rather than his first appearance on an Apple stage.

Ternus opened with "It's great to be here," then reflected on joining Apple 25 years ago and never imagining that he would one day lead the company.

The former hardware engineering chief emphasized Apple's focus on design, simplicity, and products that help people become more creative and productive. Ternus joined Apple in 2001 and later oversaw hardware development across the Mac, iPad, iPhone, and AirPods.

Cook led Apple for 15 years and remains involved as executive chairman. The arrangement makes the leadership change a transition built around continuity rather than a complete break from the Cook era.

The products introduced during Ternus's first event were already years into development before he became CEO. The presentation therefore offers a better early measure of his public leadership style than of any product strategy created under his command.

Ternus said Apple still has much more ahead before turning to the products prepared for the event, beginning his tenure with a message of continuity and optimism.
