As the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max nears, rumors continue to circulate, claiming that Apple will be using a dark cherry red as its featured colorway.
Following the wild success of the striking Cosmic Orange option of the iPhone 17 Pro line, Apple has been expected to do something similar for the iPhone 18 Pro. It seems that the selected color this time is red.
According to an August 10 post by Weibo leaker Fixed Focus Digital, two red versions have been circulating in the rumor mill. One was for a lighter burgundy, while the other was darker.
Of the two, Fixed Focus Digital says the darker version is the correct colorway variant. Furthermore, they specify it as being purple-like, similar to cherries.

While Weibo leakers don't have the best reputation for accuracy, Fixed Focus Digital's is somewhat mixed. Sometimes they have proven to be accurate, but they have also missed the mark.
However, in this case, the leaker is reviving previous rumors about the color.
In February, Bloomberg reported that variants of red were being tested by Apple as a follow-up to Cosmic Orange. Two months later, in April, reports came up that Apple was going for a Dark Cherry colorway, a color that has stuck around in the rumor mill ever since.
April also saw fellow Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station wade in, claiming the crimson model was on the way with a "high probability."
A somewhat more concrete leak arrived in May via Sonny Dickson, posting an image to X. Four iPhone colors were shown, with Dark Cherry alongside Black, Silver, and Light Blue.
This also isn't Apple's first blush with Dark Cherry, either. In November 2025, it started to sell a range of accessories for its products emblazoned in the color.
As always, there's no guarantee that any rumors about the iPhone updates are true, until they are confirmed by Apple's launch in early September.
