Apple only lets you install firmware it is currently signing. To downgrade, the older version must still be signed for your device — usually for one to two weeks after a new release.
Current status (October 7, 2026)
- Signed iOS 27 versions on iPhone: 27.0.1
- Signed iOS 26 versions on iPhone: none
Apple has stopped signing iOS 26 for iPhones that support iOS 27, so downgrading to iOS 26 is not possible right now.
The signing status page updates every 30 minutes and always shows the live list for every device.
How to downgrade (when a version is signed)
- Back up. A backup made on the newer iOS cannot be restored to an older version. Use an older archived backup or start fresh.
- Turn off Find My.
- Download the signed older IPSW for your exact model from our iPhone list.
- Connect to a Mac or PC, hold Option/Shift and click Restore iPhone, then choose the file. Details in the restore guide.
- If the restore stalls, use recovery or DFU mode and try again.
What about unsigned versions?
Without saved SHSH blobs and a matching exploit, unsigned versions can’t be installed on modern devices. Tools and websites that promise otherwise for current iPhones don’t work.
Leaving a beta instead?
If you are on an iOS 27 beta, read how to leave the beta — you may not need to erase anything.
